For the last five years The Summer Rocks Show has been held on a Thursday night in August. This very popular show features local and regional bands that have been known to knock peoples socks off and as Nick Tobin says, "staple their bones together."

This year The Show will be in September, as part of the Fall Festival, on Saturday Night.

Here are the Fall Festival Events scheduled for the Sunset Theatre on Saturday, September 13th:

1:30pm: The Hillyard Belles
Back by popular demand!

4:00pm: Guitar Hero Competition
Sign up at the Video Store to participate.

7:30pm: The Summer Rocks Show
So much entertainment for just five dollars!

Featuring Hello Karma

With:
Gladiators Eat Fire
The Brickers
Sweet Diss and the Comebacks

Connell Fall Festival 2008
By Nathan Reinauer

Hey! You reading this! Yes, you. What are you doing the weekend of September 12th – 14th? Oh, that’s interesting. Except there’s something way more awesome happening in Connell. It’s called the Fall Festival and it’s going to rock your face off.

“What is so awesome about it?” I hear you ask. Ha! I’ll tell you: There’s the Summer Rocks Show, for starters. This stupefyingly ridiculous rock concert features 4 bands from all over the Northwest: Hello Karma (Seattle), The Brickers (Portland), Gladiators Eat Fire (Seattle) and Connell’s own Sweet Diss and the Comebacks. It will be held at the Sunset Theatre on Saturday at 7:30. $5 at the door.

Still not impressed? Okay, Mr. Toughsell. Try this one on for size: A Grand Parade! An entire parade will be floating down our golden streets at 11:00 am on Saturday featuring music, floats, and even motorcycles! (Did I mention the Kiddy Parade preceding it at 10:30?) As a related event, there is also a MINI FLOAT CONTEST!! To enter, contact John Lindner at Old Connell Hardware (234-2710) or call 206-335-9579 for free registration.

Surely this is enough. But there is even more! The Dirty – Purrty – Ugly – Truck Show is for hardcore auto-enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the fine art of owning a truck. This massively entertaining event will take place Friday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 and Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Connell Elementary School parking lot. There will even be trophies! Call Bob Widows at 539-6488 for more info.

By now you must be brimming with barely-suppressed excitement at these severely fun-tastic happenings. But I must warn you: two more stupendously exhilarating events are taking place at the Sunset Theatre on Saturday afternoon! At 1:30 is the wildly entertaining Hillyard Belles, a senior citizen dance troupe back by popular demand for their second year in a row! After that there will be a Guitar Hero Competition at 4:00. Sign up to participate at the video store. The game will be projected on a screen the size of a two-story building! Holy vertigo, Batman!!

In the run-up to all of this madness is the beautifully bovine Junior Livestock Show beginning on Wednesday!

Would you believe it if I told you this was only the tip of the iceberg?? There will also be street vendors, an art show, live music… possibly even a freak stampede of curiously displaced elephants! (Probably not, though.)

Wow. Even just writing this article is making my head spin with adrenaline-pumping, mind-tumbling, cat-swatting excitement!! So what are you doing the weekend of September 12th – 14th again? That’s what I thought. See you there!

The First Summer Rocks Show was held Aug 7th 2003:

The Bands included 2 from The Extreme Tour that was passing through the Tri-Cities:
Active Ingrediants
and Unforsaken

plus two local bands:
Atomic Chad
and Plunk!

We learned a lot the first year, including talking to the bands about not setting their drums on fire during the performance...
